On December 23, the leader of the Port Authority of Ho Chi Minh City said that with a very small number of Vietnamese ships being kept abroad in 2020, this is also the 6th consecutive year that Vietnam is on the 'list'. white" of Tokyo MOU (a cooperative organization for port state inspection in the Asia-Pacific region).

The reason why Vietnam is still on the "white list" of Tokyo MOU is that in 2020, only 6 times of ships are kept abroad, accounting for 1.28% of the number of ships and a 33% reduction in the number of ships being detained. overseas storage compared to 2019.

According to Tokyo MOU, by the end of December 15, 2020, there have been 555 times of Vietnamese ships inspected. Of which, 467 ships were inspected for the first time. Overseas port authorities discovered 1,198 defects related to 381 ships and only 6 ships were detained.

In order to continue to maintain Vietnam on the "white list" of Tokyo MOU, the Maritime Administration and the Vietnam Register said that they have organized many inspections of Vietnamese ships operating on international routes. on maritime safety, maritime security, maritime labor and prevention of environmental pollution.

In which, the Maritime Administration inspected 299 ships and discovered 266 ships with 2,139 defects. The Registry Department said that it is determined to revoke the certificates of international operations of ships with violations, until the defects are rectified before allowing operation.

The authorities said that the inspection and handling of violating vessels aims to reduce the number of Vietnamese ships being kept at overseas ports.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Nam - Director of the Port Authority of Ho Chi Minh City - said that in 2013, Vietnam was on the 'black list' of the Tokyo MOU. Right in 2014, Vietnam succeeded in implementing a project to take the shipping fleet out of the 'black list' to enter the 'white list', without going through the 'gray list', as approved by the Maritime Administration. organize strict and regular inspection of seagoing ships operating on international routes.
